Asin -- Kollywood to Bollywood
Ghajini fame bollywood star Asin Excerpts speaks to The Hindu. Check out what she has to say here.

CHENNAI EXPRESS ASIN THOTTUMKAL
A subtle play of emotions. An underplayed characterisation. A perfect foil for the egos of two singers. A balanced performance without interfering with the powerful portrayals of Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan. With just the right momentum of a ‘Chennai Express’ to chug non-stop through a journey to fulfil London Dreams. That’s Asin - natural, spontaneous and expressive.
Does she miss Chennai and Kollywood? “Frankly, I would be open to offers from any industry, as long as the role is good. I have done most roles in the South, and don’t want to repeat them. If something really interesting comes up, I will not say no to a Tamil film. But, right now, things seem to be happening for me in Bollywood, and I feel I should give it a shot,” says Asin.
“My friends and well-wishers in the industry said they would have liked to see me in a meatier role (in London Dreams), knowing what I am capable of and what I have done so far in the South, especially in the Hindi remake of Ghajini. It is good to hear that! But I knew what I was getting into after reading the script; after all, the story was about two friends and everything else was supportive of that.
“That aside, I consider myself very fortunate that in just two films I have worked with two of the best directors and three of the top Bollywood actors. Can a beginner in Hindi films ask for more?” asks Asin.
“By mid 2008, London Dreams was offered to me and, I was like, ‘Wow! Is this happening to me?’ Frankly, I had no big Bollywood dreams and still don’t have. I am just going with the flow,” says Asin, who decided that moving lock, stock and barrel to Mumbai was essential for the growth of her career. [ Read full interview here ]

Asin's London Dreams - Review
The much awaited Bollywood musical film London Dreams, directed by Vipul Shah has hit the worldwide screens today(Oct 30 2009). Starring Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn in lead roles, the film also features rising bollywood southie star Asin Thottumkal as the lead female character.

Asin, lovely to look at, is but a bizarre cross between a cheerleader and a groupie, whose talent lies in doing variations of the belly dance on stage. She joins the band at a make-or-break audition after this conversation: "Main kya karun?" she asks Rannvijay. "Just go with the flow," he answers. So, she shimmies and shakes a bit to impress the judges.

You may like London Dreams for its beautiful frames, some paisa-vasool moments between Salman and Devgn, a good background score and catchy songs. For the rest, you need willing suspension of disbelief. And large doses of it >> [ Read complete reviews ]

Asin spends a happiest and best birthday
Dear fans of Asinweb: I'm sorry for the late report, and here goes what all you get to read about how our Kerala Goddess ASIN THOTTUMKAL celebrated her birthday.

Exhausted Asin spends a quiet birthday
Kerala born rising bollywood star Asin Thottumkal, whose back-to-back promotional campaigns for 'London Dreams' left her exhausted, ushered in her birthday quietly with a few friends and family members. She says it was the most 'peaceful and happy birthday' of her life.
Today after conquering south India Asin is one of the hottest females in Bollywood following the success of her debut film Ghajini.
So now all eyes are on her as London Dreams is her big ticket to establish herself in Mumbai tinsel town. Asin's birthday celebrations started from Sunday evening at her home.
"Actually I hadn't slept at all. I had been working non-stop for 'London Dreams' for the last one week with just three-four hours of sleep. Anyway I'm making up for the exhausting week with the most peaceful and happy birthday of my life," Asin, who turned 24 Monday, told media.
Asin brought in her birthday with a quiet dinner on Sunday night with her close friends. 'It was eight of my closest friends at dinner. We had a ball. At midnight they made me cut a cake. I felt 12 years old again.'
Earlier in the evening, Asin arrived home to a big surprise. She said, “When I opened the door, the entire house was done up with balloons by my parents, just like they used to for my birthdays when I was a child. I had to burst quite a few balloons because there was no room to even walk. I’ve never felt happier.”
The second half of the day was devoted to spending time with the kids in her highrise apartment. She said, “Fortunately, there was enough cake and chocolates to go around. So it was great fun. This is the best birthday I’ve had.”
Asin is under tension as her second release in Bollywood London Dreams is opening on Friday October 30 worldwide. She is now on five city promotional tour for the film. [ Read more ]
